Annual prize in memory of Gemma Donata Nicolosi Dal Pozzolo


The Fondazione Centro Studi Tiziano e Cadore is promoting the fourth edition of the annual prize in memory of Gemma Donata Nicolosi Dal Pozzolo.
Italian and foreign scholars (not older than age 35) can participate by submitting an original essay on Titian regarding any aspect on his biography, his production, commissioners, collections, critical reviews, restoration and conservation diagnostics, the Vecellio family, Titian’s workshop, his circle, derivations of his work, copies, and falsifications. 

The paper (length not less 40,000 characters, including notes) can be written in Italian, English or French and will be judged by the Scientific Council of the Fondazione Centro Studi Tiziano e Cadore  (President Stefania Mason, Bernard Aikema, Enrico Maria Dal Pozzolo, Miguel Falomir, Sylvia Ferino-Pagden, Augusto Gentili, Frederick Ilchman).
The essay should present elements of originality with new data or new interpretations.
The winner will be given 1500 euro and reimbursement of expenses (maximum 500 euro) to attend the award ceremony in Pieve di Cadore during Estate Tizianesca.  The essay will be published in “Studi Tizianeschi”. The jury may also indicate other essays that could be published, despite not being monetary prize winners.
Winners of previous editions will not be admitted.
The essays, along with related images, free from reproduction rights, must be sent by June 15th,2024 to the Fondazione at centrostudi@tizianovecellio.it.

The winner will be notified by July 15th, 2024 and made public on the Foundation’s website.


Gemma Donata Nicolosi Dal Pozzolo was born on August 10, 1940 in Gorizia. Passionate about art, she studied at the International University of Art in Venice, specializing in the restoration of paintings under the guidance of prof. Clauco Benito Tiozzo. She worked for many years as a conservator for private collections, but above all was dedicated to her family, with which she shared her love for painting, nature, animals, and the truth.  She died in Padova on January 8, 2021
